Vw Beetle Hood Latch Broken. I had a very similar problem with my daughters 1998 Beetle and the cause was traced back to the hood latch. The hood latch is broken on 2001 beetle The hood latch is broken on 2001 beetle it appears to broken near the hood and not inside the car at the release lever. I pull the latch inside the car to open the hood of my 2000 vw passat and nothing happens i pull up on the hood still wont give either the hood cable is strecthed and not pulling the cable far enuffor the cable is seized or the latch is brokentry pulling the actual cable and not the leverwith like a pleirs or something. Should work on 98-11 vw beetle and the idea is the same.

The handle is still on but it just moves back and forth.
The hood on my daughters new beetle wouldnt pop up. If your hood isnt opening because of a broken release wire you can often pull the wire yourself from inside the car.
